Turkana jewel Cichlid (1.5-2 Inches) Single

Rs. 160.00 Rs. 200.00

Description

The Turkana Jewel Cichlid (1.5-2 inches) is a visually striking, semi-aggressive freshwater species native to Lake Turkana in East Africa. At this slightly larger juvenile stage, the cichlid’s vibrant coloration is starting to intensify, with its body displaying a base color of deep ruby red or reddish-brown. This is accentuated by iridescent green, turquoise, or blue spots scattered across its flanks and fins, giving it a jewel-like appearance. The vibrant colors are even more pronounced under aquarium lighting, making it a true centerpiece in any tank.

Behavior and Temperament : Turkana Jewel Cichlids are known for their territorial nature, and as they reach 1.5-2 inches, their semi-aggressive behavior becomes more evident. They are active swimmers, constantly exploring their environment, and will defend their territory, especially if they are preparing for breeding. Although they are more manageable in terms of aggression at this size, tankmates should still be chosen carefully to ensure compatibility.

Tank Size: A minimum of 136 litres is recommended, as these fish are active and require space to establish territories.

Aquascape: Provide a mix of rocks, caves, and driftwood for hiding and territorial boundaries. A sandy substrate is ideal for their natural behavior of digging and foraging.

Water Parameters: Optimal water conditions include a temperature of 75-82°F (24-28°C), a pH range of 6.5-7.5, and water hardness between 4-12 dGH.

Lighting: Moderate lighting works best, as it enhances the vibrant colors of the fish without causing stress.

Diet : Turkana Jewel Cichlids are omnivores and require a varied diet to maintain their vibrant colors and health. High-quality pellets or flakes supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia will keep them in peak condition. Occasional vegetable matter, such as blanched spinach or spirulina-based food, can also be offered.
