Geophagus Red Head Tapajos (5-6 Cms) Single

Rs. 350.00

Description

The Geophagus Red Head Tapajos (5-6 cm) is a vibrant juvenile cichlid known for its striking coloration and gentle nature. Hailing from the Tapajos River in the Amazon Basin, this fish is highly prized for its vivid red-orange head and metallic blue body, which become more pronounced as the fish matures. At 5-6 cm, the Red Head Tapajos is in the early stages of developing its signature colors, but already shows hints of the brilliant hues that will fully emerge as it grows.

This species is a substrate sifter, meaning it spends much of its time at the bottom of the tank, sifting through sand in search of food. Therefore, a soft, sandy substrate is ideal to allow the fish to engage in this natural behavior without damaging its gills. The tank should also be equipped with plenty of hiding spots, such as rocks, driftwood, and sturdy plants, to provide a natural and secure environment.

The Red Head Tapajos is generally peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive species. However, like other cichlids, they may exhibit territorial behavior, particularly during breeding periods. A tank of at least 250 litres is recommended to provide ample space for the fish to establish territories and move freely.

Diet-wise, this species thrives on a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, as well as live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Including some plant matter, such as spirulina or blanched vegetables, is also beneficial for their overall health.

The Geophagus Red Head Tapajos (5-6 cm) is a beautiful and engaging fish that adds color and dynamic behavior to a well-maintained freshwater aquarium. As it grows, it will become an even more stunning centerpiece in any tank.
