The Malawi Mbuna Cichlid Magic Yellow (Size 2" to 2.5") is a striking and vibrant freshwater fish, prized for its radiant yellow coloration and bold personality. Originating from the rocky shores of Lake Malawi, this Mbuna cichlid is both visually stunning and a lively addition to any cichlid tank.

Appearance: The Magic Yellow Mbuna boasts an intense, almost fluorescent yellow body, often complemented by subtle dark markings on its fins or along its lateral line. At 2" to 2.5", juveniles already display the bright yellow coloring, with males often showcasing a deeper and more vibrant hue as they mature. Females tend to retain a softer yellow tone, making males more visually dominant in the tank.

Their streamlined body and robust fin structure are typical of Mbuna cichlids, designed for swift movements and navigating through rocky environments.

Temperament and Behavior: Like most Mbunas, the Magic Yellow Mbuna is territorial and aggressive, particularly among males or similarly sized species. This fish thrives in active and structured environments, where it can explore and defend its territory. Their bold and energetic nature makes them a prominent presence in any tank, often establishing themselves as dominant individuals.They do well in groups, but tankmates should also be of a similar temperament to avoid excessive bullying or conflict.

Tank Setup: The Magic Yellow Mbuna requires a rocky tank environment with plenty of hiding spots, mimicking their natural habitat. A tank of at least250 litres is recommended to provide enough space for these territorial fish to claim their spots. Arrange rocks and caves to create natural barriers and territories for each fish, reducing aggression.

Water conditions should remain stable with a pH between 7.8 and 8.6 and a temperature of 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), similar to Lake Malawi. Regular water changes and high-quality filtration are crucial for maintaining optimal health and vibrant coloration.

Diet:

In the wild, Magic Yellow Mbunas feed primarily on algae, making them herbivores. In captivity, they should be provided with a diet rich in vegetable-based flakes or pellets that include spirulina or other algae-based ingredients. Supplementing their diet with blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini will also keep them healthy.
