The Bottom Dweller Green Cory (Corydoras aeneus), often referred to as the Bronze Corydoras, is a charming and peaceful freshwater fish, well-loved by aquarists for its hardiness and active nature. Despite the name "Green Cory," this fish is more accurately described as having a bronze or metallic green sheen, which adds a subtle yet beautiful touch to any aquarium.

Coloration: The Green Cory has a body that shimmers with a greenish-bronze metallic hue, especially when light hits its scales at certain angles. This iridescent quality gives it a beautiful, almost jewel-like appearance. The underside is typically lighter, often white or pale pink.

Size: As a single adult, the Green Cory usually reaches about 5-7.5 cm (2-3 inches) in length. It has a compact, rounded body with a slightly flattened belly, making it well-suited for bottom-dwelling.

Body Shape: The Green Cory has a stocky, armored body with rows of bony plates, known as scutes, along its sides. It also has a short, broad head with downward-facing mouths equipped with barbels (whisker-like appendages) used for foraging in the substrate.

Temperament: The Green Cory is known for its peaceful and social nature. It thrives in groups of 6 or more, as it’s a schooling species. When kept alone, it may become stressed or shy, so even though you mention a "single," it's best to consider keeping them in groups.

Activity: These bottom dwellers are active during the day and spend much of their time scouring the substrate for food. They are energetic and playful, often seen darting around the tank or resting together in a group.

Compatibility: Green Corys are excellent community fish and can coexist peacefully with a variety of other non-aggressive species, making them ideal for a mixed-species tank.

Tank Size: A minimum of  75 litres is recommended, especially if keeping a small group. They appreciate a well-planted tank with plenty of swimming space at the bottom.

Water Conditions: Green Corys prefer slightly cooler water temperatures compared to many tropical fish, ideally between 72-78°F (22-26°C). They thrive in a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and soft to moderately hard water.

Substrate and Decor: A soft substrate like sand or smooth gravel is crucial to prevent damage to their delicate barbels. The tank should include plenty of hiding spots, such as driftwood, rocks, and plants, to mimic their natural habitat.

Feeding: Green Corys are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. They thrive on high-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and a mix of live or frozen foods like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. They will also scavenge for leftover food, helping to keep the tank clean.
