Description
The Goldfish (5-6 cm) is a classic and popular freshwater aquarium fish, known for its vibrant golden coloration and distinctive, flowing fins. This size represents a juvenile goldfish, and while it is still growing, it exhibits many of the characteristic features that make goldfish a favorite among aquarists.
Appearance: At 5-6 cm, the Goldfish displays its signature golden-orange hue, which can range from bright yellow to a deep, rich orange. The body is typically oval and streamlined, with a slightly flattened shape. The fins are often long and flowing, giving the fish an elegant appearance as it swims. Goldfish are known for their diversity in fin shapes and body types, so individual variations may include single-tail or double-tail varieties, among others.
Behavior: Goldfish are active and social fish that thrive in a well-maintained aquarium. They are curious and often engage in playful interactions, especially when they recognize their keeper and anticipate feeding time. Goldfish are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive species. However, they do require a fair amount of space due to their potential size, even though the 5-6 cm size is still relatively small.
Tank Size: A minimum of 90 litres is recommended for a single Goldfish, with larger tanks preferred as the fish grows. Goldfish can grow quite large, so planning for future size is important.
Substrate: A smooth gravel or sand substrate is suitable. Avoid sharp gravel that could damage the Goldfish's delicate mouth.
Decor: Include some decorations, such as rocks or driftwood, and avoid overly intricate setups that can trap debris. Goldfish appreciate having space to swim and explore.
Water Conditions: Maintain cool, clean water with a temperature range of 18-22°C (65-72°F). Goldfish are hardy but benefit from regular water changes and good filtration to keep the water quality high.
Pellets: High-quality goldfish pellets or flakes should be the primary food source.
