The Borneo Sucker Loach, also known as an Algae Eater, is a small and intriguing freshwater fish, perfect for keeping algae under control in an aquarium.
Appearance: This fish has a flattened body that allows it to cling to surfaces, similar to a small stingray. It typically has a mottled pattern in shades of brown, green, and yellow, which helps it blend into its environment. Its wide pectoral and pelvic fins are adapted for gripping onto rocks and glass.
Behavior: The Borneo Sucker Loach is peaceful and spends most of its time grazing on algae and biofilm. It is active during the day, often seen exploring the surfaces of the aquarium in search of food.
Habitat Requirements: This loach thrives in aquariums with strong water flow and high oxygen levels, mimicking its natural habitat in fast-flowing streams. It prefers cooler water temperatures, between 20-24°C. The tank should include plenty of smooth rocks and hiding spots.
Care: The Borneo Sucker Loach is easy to care for, feeding primarily on algae and plant matter. It can be supplemented with sinking pellets and blanched vegetables. Regular water changes and clean, well-oxygenated water are crucial for its health. It’s best kept in groups of three or more to encourage natural behaviors.
