Description
The Green Terror Cichlid (2-2.5 inches) is a striking freshwater species native to the rivers and lakes of Ecuador and Peru. It’s known for its bold personality and vibrant colors, particularly as it matures, making it a popular choice among cichlid enthusiasts. Despite its name, the "Green Terror" can exhibit a range of colors depending on environmental factors and individual variation.
Body Coloration: Juveniles have a base color that is typically metallic green or turquoise, which shimmers in the light. As the fish matures, the green intensifies, and additional colors, such as bright blue, orange, or gold, may appear, especially along the edges of the fins.
Fins: The dorsal and anal fins often have striking bright orange or red edges, which contribute to the fish’s dramatic appearance. These fins are long and flow elegantly as the fish swims.
Size: At 2-2.5 inches, the fish is still small, but it will eventually grow to a size of 8 to 12 inches in a well-maintained environment.

Behavior:The Green Terror Cichlid is known for its territorial and sometimes aggressive behavior, particularly as it matures. While relatively peaceful as juveniles, these fish will become more assertive, especially during breeding or if they feel their territory is threatened. They are best suited for tanks with other robust and similarly tempered cichlids or species that can hold their own in a more aggressive community setting.
Tank Size: For a juvenile, a 136 litres tank is adequate, but as they grow, at least a 55-gallon tank or larger is recommended to accommodate their size and territorial nature.
Water Parameters: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5 and a temperature of 72-80°F (22-27°C). Good filtration and regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality.
Aquascaping: The tank should have plenty of hiding spots, such as rocks, driftwood, and caves, to give the Green Terror places to retreat. Open swimming areas are also important for their activity level. Plants can be included, but robust species are recommended, as the Green Terror might uproot or damage delicate plants during its digging behaviors.
