The Black Tiger Barb is a striking and energetic freshwater fish, known for its bold coloration and lively behavior. This variety of Tiger Barb features a deep, almost black body with subtle vertical stripes that can be reminiscent of the classic Tiger Barb pattern, but with a much darker, more intense hue. Its fins may have a slight reddish or orange tint, adding a touch of contrast to its overall appearance.

Black Tiger Barbs are small, usually growing up to 2.5 inches in length, making them suitable for medium-sized community aquariums. They are highly active and social fish, best kept in schools of at least six to prevent them from becoming nippy or stressed. In a group, their natural schooling behavior is more pronounced, and they tend to be less aggressive towards other tank mates.

While generally compatible with other active, similarly sized fish, caution should be taken when choosing tank mates. Avoid pairing them with slow-moving or long-finned species, as Black Tiger Barbs can sometimes nip at fins if they become bored or if their schooling needs are not met.
