Description
The Micro Galaxy Rasbora (Celestichthys margaritatus), also known as the Celestial Pearl Danio or Galaxy Rasbora, is a stunningly beautiful and diminutive freshwater fish, perfect for planted tanks. This species is prized for its vibrant coloration, peaceful temperament, and suitability for nano aquariums, making it a favorite among aquarists.
Appearance: The Micro Galaxy Rasbora is renowned for its striking appearance. Its body is adorned with a deep blue to black base color, dotted with iridescent, pearl-like spots that resemble a starry night sky, hence the name "Galaxy." The fins are accented with bright orange or red edges, adding a contrasting splash of color. This tiny fish typically grows to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length, making it an ideal choice for nano tanks or heavily planted aquariums where it can stand out against the greenery.
Behavior and Temperament: Micro Galaxy Rasboras are peaceful, social fish that thrive in groups. They are relatively shy and prefer to swim in the middle to lower levels of the tank, often seeking shelter among plants when they feel insecure. Keeping them in a school of at least six to eight individuals helps them feel more secure and display their natural behaviors. Their calm demeanor makes them excellent companions in a community tank with other small, non-aggressive species.
Habitat Requirements: A well-planted tank is essential for the Micro Galaxy Rasbora, as they feel most at ease in environments that offer plenty of cover and hiding spots. A tank of at least 45 litres is recommended, especially if you plan to keep a small school of these fish. The water should be soft to moderately hard, with a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C) and a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Dense vegetation, driftwood, and leaf litter will help replicate their natural habitat, making them feel comfortable and encouraging natural behaviors.
Diet: Micro Galaxy Rasboras are omnivores and require a varied diet to maintain their health and vibrant colors. They will readily accept high-quality micro pellets or flakes, but their diet should also be supplemented with live or frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and micro-worms. These small fish have tiny mouths, so it's important to offer food that is appropriately sized. Feeding small amounts once or twice daily is sufficient to meet their nutritional needs.
