The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey at a size of 3-3.5 inches is an adolescent fish, displaying more developed coloration and a more defined body structure.  

Coloration: At 3-3.5 inches, the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey’s striking electric blue coloration is even more pronounced. The iridescent blue hue covers most of its body, shimmering under aquarium lights. This vibrant blue contrasts with darker markings, creating a stunning visual effect. The fish’s coloration will continue to intensify as it matures, but it is already a standout at this size.

Body Shape: The fish has a robust, slightly elongated body typical of cichlids, with a deeper profile compared to its earlier juvenile stages. Its fins are more developed, with the dorsal and anal fins beginning to elongate and become more pointed. The overall body shape is muscular and streamlined, indicating its growing strength and maturity.

Size: At 3-3.5 inches, the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey is approaching the midway point to its adult size, which can reach up to 8 inches (20 cm). This size makes it a relatively substantial and eye-catching fish in the aquarium.

Temperament: As the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey grows, it may begin to exhibit more of its cichlid nature, which includes a degree of territoriality and assertiveness. However, this variety is known to be less aggressive than the standard Jack Dempsey. At this size, it may start to establish its territory within the tank and may show some dominance behaviors, especially during feeding or when it feels its space is threatened.

Water Parameters: This species thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH of 6.5-7.5 and a temperature range of 75-80°F (24-27°C). Maintaining stable water quality is crucial, as the Electric Blue variety is somewhat more sensitive to fluctuations than the standard Jack Dempsey.

Decor: The tank should be equipped with rocks, driftwood, and hardy plants to provide hiding spots and natural barriers, which can help reduce territorial disputes. A sandy or fine gravel substrate is ideal, and the tank should be arranged to allow for clear territories and swimming spaces.

Diet: Electric Blue Jack Dempseys are omnivores and should be fed a balanced diet. At this size, they should be given a mix of high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Incorporating plant-based foods like spirulina flakes or blanched vegetables ensures they receive a well-rounded diet.
