The Albino Cory (Corydoras aeneus "Albino") is a popular and distinctive freshwater catfish, cherished for its unique appearance and hardy nature. This variety of the common Bronze Corydoras has been selectively bred to exhibit a pale, almost ghostly coloration that stands out beautifully in any aquarium.

The Albino Cory is a visually striking and peaceful addition to any community aquarium. Its unique coloration, gentle temperament, and active foraging behavior make it a favorite among aquarists. While it can be kept alone, Albino Corys truly thrive and display their best behaviors when kept in a small group, allowing them to interact and feel secure.

Coloration: The Albino Cory is easily identified by its creamy white to pale pink body, which contrasts sharply with its red or pinkish eyes. The albino trait removes the normal pigmentation, giving the fish its characteristic pale coloration. The lack of dark pigment allows the pinkish hue of the blood vessels in the eyes to show through, giving the fish its striking red-eyed appearance.

Size: Albino Corys typically grow to about 5-7.5 cm (2-3 inches) in length, similar to other Corydoras species. Their small size makes them a good fit for a variety of tank setups.

Body Shape: Like other Corydoras, the Albino Cory has a rounded, slightly flattened body with a short, broad head. Its mouth is equipped with sensitive barbels, which it uses to forage for food along the substrate.

Temperament: Albino Corys are known for their peaceful and social nature. They thrive in groups of 6 or more, where they can display their natural schooling behavior. While you mentioned keeping a single Albino Cory, it's worth noting that these fish are happiest and most active when kept in a group.

Activity: These bottom dwellers are active during the day, spending much of their time sifting through the substrate in search of food. They are gentle, non-aggressive, and are often seen resting or playing together in a group, making them a delightful addition to any community tank.

Compatibility: Albino Corys are excellent community fish and can coexist peacefully with a wide range of other non-aggressive species, including tetras, rasboras, and other small fish. They are also safe to keep with dwarf shrimp and other invertebrates.

Tank Size: A minimum of  75 litres is recommended, particularly if keeping a group. While they don't require a large tank, they do appreciate plenty of space to swim and forage.

Water Conditions: Albino Corys prefer water temperatures between 72-79°F (22-26°C) with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. They thrive in soft to moderately hard water and appreciate a well-maintained tank with clean, well-oxygenated water.

Substrate and Decor: A soft substrate like sand or smooth gravel is ideal to protect their delicate barbels. The tank should be well-planted with plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, driftwood, and dense vegetation, to provide shelter and mimic their natural environment.

Feeding: Albino Corys are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. They enjoy high-quality sinking pellets, wafers, and live or frozen foods like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. They are also effective scavengers, helping to clean up leftover food from the bottom of the tank.
